As an outsider, I have neither a past nor a future in your company and, therefore, don’t have to get too concerned about your internal politics. This allows me to focus on my task, in an absolutely neutral and unbiased manner. I not only offer advice and develop ideas, but also like to assist with implementation and execution.

As an interim manager, I am free to talk directly with the CIO, CFO, or CEO and tell her/him where I believe things are not going well. An employee rarely enjoys such freedom. Moreover, employees often speak much more openly to outsiders about issues, weaknesses, and opportunities. Such discussions generally highlight conflicts within teams, cross-functional problems, or difficulties with individuals.
